When using a credit or debit card at the pump, your bank may place a hold on your account for several days. The hold amount may be applied in addition to the purchase amount. Generally, while the hold is in place the funds remain in your account. However, the funds will be unavailable for other purchases. The amount and duration of the hold is determined by your bank. If you have questions about your bank’s policy, please call the number on the back of your card.

The two main factors that impact U.S. gas prices are the price of crude oil and federal and state gasoline taxes.

Crude oil is by far the largest factor in the price of a gallon of gasoline. U.S. production of crude oil alone is not always the most reliable and efficient way of meeting U.S. demand, therefore oil companies like ExxonMobil have to purchase crude oil — at market prices — to produce gasoline and other products.

Mobil™ branded stations conduct robust oversight programs to ensure the consistent quality of our premium fuels. They test the fuels to ensure the appropriate level of additives is incorporated and that the fuel meets the designated octane level.

The benefits of our premium gas apply across vehicle technologies, including those with turbocharged engines. Turbocharged engines typically respond to premium fuel with high octane better than naturally aspirated engines due to their higher cylinder pressures, which increase the knocking tendency that higher octane helps manage. The level of improvement depends on a variety of factors, which can include engine design and calibration, driving conditions and driving style.
